UNIVERSAL PICTURES RESPOND TO COUPLES RETREAT INTERNATIONAL POSTER BACKLASH

In October I blogged about the film Couples Retreat and it’s suspect promotional material. Click here to read.

The international poster promoting the film (also seen here in Britain) does not feature African American actors Faizon Love and Kali Hawk.

However the US poster does feature both actors but they have both been deliberately placed right at the back.

Since then our very own Daily Mail has picked up on the story and featured this article via their website on Monday.

In response to the controversy Universal Pictures said, the poster had been changed to ‘simplify’ it for the UK and international market outside America. The studio added that it regretted causing offence and has abandoned plans to use the revised poster in other countries.

  1. Fuckin idiots, cos there are NO black people outside the U.S right?!! No wonder I get some people gawping in amazement when they hear my British accent in NY! Foolishness.

  2. Pure f–kries !!!

Why is a black face so threatening to them, god damn it,
they need to sort their shit out 😦

  3. Are well paid journalists at The Mail so lazy that they scour hard earned blogs to get their stories?
I checked out the comments section and the most rated was “Hang on, this is a totally different picture, not airbrusged. Get your facts right”
Racist folk have an amazing way about focusing on the useless to take away from the issue. Airbrush or not -a panel of professional creatives sat and made a commercial decicion based on their own bias to decide for the international community outside of America that the sales for the film would plummet if black faces were on the poster. Period. Why noone felt the need to explain this fact away I will always know 😉

  4. You would think that the white folks consumers would have a problem with this kind of things that seem to happen often, and object, but they see nothing wrong with it. Which begs a question.

  5. @Reclaimin

The film was released here in October and it’s only now that the UK mainstream press is reporting on it.

Had it not been for a few blogs (including Mad News) and a few film sites they would not have picked up on it all all.

  6. Not even the actors and actresses of the movie(all of them) opposed this or said a word. Just goes to show.
